What is Community I-Care?
What has Community I-Care done so far?Croc Festivals®:Community I-Care has partnered with Croc Festival®, which is a sister organisation to the Rock Eisteddfod. The Festivals involve a 3 day program in remote and regional areas of Australia to promote health education and culture. As part of the festivals, Community ICare organizes vision pre-screening, testing and providing of free glasses as necessary to the students attending the Festivals. So far in the last 3 years, we have screened and tested over 48 000 children, many of which would not have otherwise had ready access to these services. The Salvation ArmyIn July 2005 we launched a program partnering with The Salvation Army. It is designed to help stores get in touch with their local communities on an individual basis to provide free eye care to those in acute need. Pika Wiya:A program is now underway to provide eye care to a population of 4000 Indigenous Australians in rural and remote areas of South Australia. Overseas:Our program is currently operating in Sigatoka, an area south of Nadi in Fiji. We are working with an Australian Ophthalmologist through The Rotary Club of Rose Bay to provide the gift of sight to the people. On our last trip in Nov 2005 we tested over 1000 people, supplied 870 pairs of glasses, 500 Sunglasses and assisted the ophthalmologist with over 60 Cataract and pterygium operations. We have also participated in overseas aid programs in partnership with our American counterparts "Give The Gift of Sight" to Mexico, donating 25 000 pairs of glasses with similar programs to China and Cambodia later this year Visit our website www.communityicare.org.au |
